Puppy's First Month: A Palembang Vet's Complete Guide

The First 72 Hours

Your new puppy needs warmth (28โ€“32ยฐC), colostrum-rich milk from the mother (or formula), and rest. Avoid exposing unvaccinated puppies to public spaces, other dogs, or soil where unknown dogs have been.

When to Start Vaccinations

First vaccines should begin at 6โ€“8 weeks of age. The core puppy series covers Distemper, Parvovirus, Hepatitis, and Parainfluenza โ€” given every 3โ€“4 weeks until 16 weeks.

Deworming Schedule

Begin deworming at 2 weeks of age, repeat at 4, 6, and 8 weeks, then monthly until 6 months. In Palembang's humid climate, roundworm and hookworm are especially prevalent.

Socialization Window

Weeks 3โ€“16 are the critical socialization window. Gradually expose your puppy to sounds, people, and environments (after vaccinations protect them). Properly socialized puppies grow into well-adjusted adult dogs.

First Vet Visit

Schedule your puppy's first check-up within 1โ€“3 days of bringing them home. We'll check for congenital issues, confirm deworming status, start vaccination planning, and answer all your new-puppy questions.
